Brotherton Professor of Chemical Engineering

University of Leeds

Kevin is currently Brotherton Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Leeds in the UK and Director of the EPSRC’s Centre for Doctoral Training in Complex Particulate Products and Processes. His research interests centre on crystallisation science and engineering as well as the applications of crystals in the formulation of structured particulate products. Particular focus areas include solid-state, surface and solution phase chemistry of molecular crystals, process analytical techniques, and Digital Quality by Design (dQbD). This work encompasses both fundamental and applied aspects with the latter being directed towards the needs of the pharmaceuticals, specialities, fine chemicals, and nutritional products sectors.

Kevin has led, and participated in, several large scale interdisciplinary research projects such as Chemical Behaving Badly, Synthonic Engineering, ADDOPT and INFORM2020, published nearly 500 research papers and supervised more than 80 PhD student projects. Kevin is a Chartered Engineer, is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Institute of Physics, Royal Society of Chemistry and Institution of Chemical Engineers and has been awarded a DSc (Higher Doctorate) from the University of Strathclyde.
