Applications are invited for a Project Manager to join the national EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Continuous Manufacturing and Crystallisation (CMAC; www.cmac.ac.uk) at the University of Strathclyde. The internationally leading academic-charity-industry team is establishing a world-class UK facility to support the national research community to advance the science and technology for the continuous manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.
The Centre has recently received a UK Research Partnership Investment Fund Award (UK RPIF) of £11.4m which will stimulate £22.8m investment HEI research facilities by global pharmaceutical companies GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca and Novartis and other innovative businesses and charity. The investment will strengthen future research in this field by establishing a world-leading open-access facility in the new £89M Technology Innovation Centre at Strathclyde University and provide state-of-the art facilities across strategic national Centre HEI partner laboratories, supporting the wider community plus facilitating co-location of academic-industry consortium members. Crucially, the award will also deliver bespoke manufacturing platforms to address critical industry challenges. This will revolutionise the research landscape supporting UK manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and high value chemical products and establish an accessible critical mass of specialised facilities.
Reporting to the Centre Director and RPIF Executive Group, you will coordinate the £11.4M procurement programme spanning a broad range of analytical and processing equipment and instrumentation. Significant experience of project management and purchasing, ideally in a research, innovation and/or development environment is essential. You will work closely with the Centre executive team, academics, University purchasing, Estates Services, senior technical staff from the industry partners and technology providers to deliver a vibrant new facility within the new TIC building. This infrastructure will enhance research excellence, impact and commercialisation for the benefit of the University and CMAC partners. You will therefore have the ability to work autonomously in a complex environment with many stakeholders and challenging timescales in a high profile UK manufacturing research project. You will have a multitude of stakeholder and key user expectations which will require careful management and will work closely with senior colleagues to ensure effective delivery.
Strong project management and excellent interpersonal and communications skills to consult, negotiate and deliver efficient and effective solutions to complex issues, involving multiple stakeholder groups, are essential. Experience of working with industry or academia in a project management role is therefore a critical requirement, while experience in a business development and/or research environment is also desirable.
